Llandrindod Twinning Association has recently held a fundraising sale at the Community Charity Shop in Llandrindod Wells in order to raise money to support youth visits to and from the twin towns of Contrexeville, France and Bad Rappenau,Germany.
There was great support for the sale from people in Llandrindod and surrounding area who gave an excellent selection of items that raised over £1,350 towards the Associations funds. Rob Shelton, Chairman of the Twinning Association, thanked all the members of the Committee who had organised and run the sale and particularly thanked everyone who had given so generously.
He pointed out that the Association’s activities are funded almost exclusively from local voluntary contributions. He said “we rely on the efforts of our fundraising working group in order to meet the cost of receiving visiting groups. Many local families volunteer to provide accommodation, but additional funds are needed to pay for visits and social gatherings which we arrange whilst our visitors are here”.
This year the Association will be hosting a large number of visitors from Germany. In June two delegations from Bad Rappenau will be visiting Llandrindod, one group of thirty eight adults and one group of twenty eight pupils who will be visiting the High School. In July a group of twenty Scouts from Llandrindod will be travelling to Bad Rappenau and in August a group of fifteen young people from Llandrindod will be travelling to Contrexeville.
Rob said that anyone interested in taking part in Twinning activities should contact the Twinning Association Secretary on 01597 851931 or visit the Associations website https://llandrindodtwinning.wordpress.com where information for people wishing to organise group visits to France or Germany can be found.
