A group of thirty five guests from Bad Rappenau, Germany which is twinned with Llandrindod Wells, has recently completed a three day stay in Mid Wales. The party was welcomed by Llandrindod’s Mayor, Councillor Jon Williams, at a reception at the Hotel Commodore where a small number of the visitors stayed. The other guests were accommodated in the homes of supporters of Llandrindod Twinning during their stay and were able to enjoy a full programme of events which had been organised by the Llandrindod Twinning Association.

The weather was warm and sunny and on their first day the guests spent time with their host families visiting local beauty spots and events, including the Royal Welsh Spring Festival, Elan Valley, Powys Castle, Hergest Croft and other local attractions. In the evening everybody met at the Lakeside Restaurant where they enjoyed a meal together followed by music from Ffrindiau Ladies Choir.

On the second day the visitors were taken on a day out in Tenby where they had an exciting boat trip to view seals and nesting seabirds around Caldey Island. On their return to Llandrindod the twinners stopped at the Plough, Llandeilo for an evening meal. For many of the guests it was their first visit to Wales and many commented on the beauty of the Welsh countryside and the welcome and hospitality that they had enjoyed. At the farewell  Sibylle Hummel, Chairman of Bad Rappenau, thanked the host families for their generous hospitality during the visit which had been a great success.

Before their journey home the Mayor, Councillor Jon Williams, thanked the visitors for making the long journey to Wales and wished them a safe journey home. He was looking forward to visiting Bad Rappenau with a group from Llandrindod in September to celebrate fifteen years of twinning between the two towns.

Rob Shelton, Chairman of Llandrindod Twinning pointed out that in order to fund these visits the Twinning Association relies on voluntary contributions and support. Anybody wishing to be involved is asked to contact the Twinning Association through links on its website https://llandrindodtwinning.wordpress.com/ or by phoning the Secretary on 01597 851931
